Guardiola won't apologise for calling on more fans to attend City games

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he won't say sorry for urging more fans to come to tomorrow's Premier League game with Southampton.

He's been criticised by the official supporters club representative, Kevin Parker, after saying they 'need' more supporters at the Etihad Stadium for the clash with the Saints.

38,062 watched the Premier League champions' 6-3 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League midweek and Parker says Guardiola should 'stick to coaching' rather than criticising the club's fans.

But the Catalan coach insists his comments weren't a dig and that he'd never question supporter loyalty.

"Did I say after the game that I was disappointed that the stadium was not full? An interpretation is an interpretation," Guardiola said in response.

"I am not going to apologise for what I said. What I said was we need the support. It doesn't matter how many people come but I invite them to come and enjoy the game because we need the support.

"I always say if guys want to come we will be incredibly grateful because I know how difficult the game will be and I know we need our people.

"I never sit here and ask why people don't come. If you can't come then don't."
