There have been some strange celebrations seen already this season in the NFL, but Cam newton's tradition of handing the football used in the scoring drive to a kid in the crowd is one that has gotten little criticism.
Few would complain about Newton giving the children in the crowd a memento of the game to take home...well all except one referee, who last night refused to hand over the ball for the quarterback to do his usual celebration.
The ref considered it for a moment as newton pleaded with him to hand over the ball (which is one of the few things not penalised by the league's extensive fines for celebration) but decided that he would instead throw it to the ball boy on the sideline.
He also tried to take it away from Cam, but Newton was not to be denied, and eventually got his hands on the ball to give it to the lucky kid.
Rude NFL refs can't stop Cam Newton from giving footballs to kids. https://t.co/KKuXKbyQPb
