WATCH: Hulk Hogan appeals for forgiveness in tearful first interview since racism scandal

Hulk Hogan hit the headlines a few weeks ago after a recording of one of his private conversations featured him using offensive language and racial slurs.

He was fired from the WWE as an ambassador and wiped from their records, but after around a month of silence, Hogan (whose real name is Terry Bollea) sat down with Good Morning America to talk about the controversy.

Hogan stated that the conversation came at a time that he was particularly low, and that he had contemplated suicide during that period. He also stated that the environment that he grew up "was a really rough neighborhood, very low income. And all my friends, we greeted each other saying that word".

He added that he was at his "lowest point" when the conversation was recorded, but that he's getting better all the time, and doesn't want to be judged on that one moment for the rest of his life.
