A video posted on Vine shows Rory McIlroy refusing to sign an autograph for a young boy who approached him after he won the Open yesterday.
The clip went viral and people were not happy with McIlroy, posting their anger on social media.
But people may have jumped the gun by criticising the golfer so quickly...
Sign of a classy champion that, just binning some young fan off!! #TheOpen #RoryMcIlroy https://t.co/bci0t9nV9w

#The_Open sorry Rory McIlroy we so admired your performance but to brush that young autograph seeker off the way you did - offends.

Just seen Rory McIlroy push away a kid asking for his autograph has put me of him completely.....

Apparently there is a very valid reason as to why he didn't stop, according to Newstalk Sports Reporter Oisin Langan:
Just to clear up the signature thing. We are asked not to sign autographs until we have officially handed in our scorecards. #RulesAreRules

#RoryMcIlroy getting stick over refusing an autograph... Doing so before handing in scorecard would have gotten him disqualified!!

I see @McIlroyRory is getting stick for not signing autographs on the course. There's a time and a place and that wasn't it #RoryMcIlroy
