'McIlroy's rivals are in trouble'

Rory McIlroy has often been described as a streaky player. But the last few weeks are more than a streak, given that he has carried off two consecutive.

Yesterday, the Northern Irishman picked up the fourth major of his career at the PGA Championship at Valhalla and it is becoming increasingly likely that a new era could be starting for him.

Two-time PGA Championship winner Dave Stockton, who helped McIlroy with his putting ahead of the Masters, agreed with that assessment when he spoke to us tonight about McIlroy's latest achievement:

"Everybody's in trouble because he's mentally got a game now that's been put together and he's just got a great game. You can see he's in a really good spot," said Stockton, who now feels that the  25-year-old has acquired extra consistency and focus to his game.

"I think he understands his putting game better than anybody else. I think it's about his comfort off the course. He's got such great support."

He also thinks McIlroy can set the bar in terms of how a superstar deals with the media.

We were also joined by former European Tour Order of Merit winner Ronan Rafferty who feels McIlroy has found his groove and puts it down to "practice, practice, practice."

He also sees McIlroy's mental strength only improving and winning multiple majors in the years to come.
