PIC: Evangelista Santos to undergo surgery on a fractured skull

For the growing popularity of Mixed Marital Arts globally, it's easy to forget just how dangerous the sport can be.

This is exemplified perfectly by the injury sustained by Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 last night.

Santos lost to Michael Page after a vicious knee to the head resulted in a knockout and Santos required quite a bit of treatment after the bout.

Page celebrated his victory by throwing a pokeball at his opponent, something which now appears to be in bad taste as Santos, it turns out, suffered a fractured skull.

"I’m under observation now, and will have surgery in the United States," Santos told MMA Fighting. "I had a serious injury, but Bellator is giving me all the support I need."

His ex-wife, Cris Cyborg took to Instagram to voice her support for the 38-year-old and even started a gofundme account to raise money for the fighter.
