The Serb thrashed Russian Andrey Kuznetsov 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 while defending champion Stan Wawrinka beat Romania's Marius Copil. The Swiss came out on top on a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 scoreline.
Meanwhile, Jerzy Janowicz has just come through a five-set thriller with Gael Monfils.
Women's favourite Serena Williams also marched on with a straight-sets 7-5, 6-0 win over Russia's Vera Zvonareva.
Elsewhere, Victoria Azarenka has won the battle of the former world number ones to reach the third round of the Australian Open.
Unseeded after recurrent injuries, the two-time Melbourne Park champion beat Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets.
