World number 10 Andy Murray is continuing his battle to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals in London this year as he goes into the Quarter Finals of the Valencia Open against Kevin Anderson. Murray currently sits in eight and final place for the qualifying position and a loss today to the South African ranked number 17 could be costly.
The two men have met three times before, the last encounter being Wimbledon, with Murray holding a 2-1 advantage. Of the two men Anderson had an easier route to the Quarters with a first round straight-sets victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber, while his opponent Martin Klizan pulled out of round two with an injury.
Meanwhile Murray had a hard fought first round victory over Jurgen Melzer with a more comprehensive second round victory over Fabio Fognini.
This will be Murray's 18th match in a month and despite coming up against one of the most powerful serves in the game in Anderson, Murray insists he is physically ready. "It will be tough - he's good indoors, he likes the conditions. He got a walkover so I expect a tough match."
Should Murray progress to the semis he will face either David Ferrer or Thomaz Belluci who face each other this afternoon.
