McDowell wins French Open after incredible comeback

Graeme McDowell has retained the French Open this afternoon. The Northern Irishman took the win at Le Golf National when Kevin Stadler, the overnight leader, missed a putt from 3 yards, handing McDowell the win and the $500,000 prize.

McDowell’s win was an incredible comeback, having started the day 9 shots off the lead. A 67 today brought McDowell to 5 under for the tournament, while Stadler shot 76, dropping back to 4 under for the tournament.

It is the first time McDowell has retained a title.

Michael Hoey finished on 1 under, with Damien McGrove on 3 over and Gareth Maybin on 8 over par.
