'A good win puts me in line for a title shot'

Since he beat Lamar Russ in December, Matthew Macklin has been itching to get back into the ring especially as he looks for a WBC title shot.

The Tipperary Tornado will finally get his first fight of the year when he takes on Jorge Sebastian Heiland at the National Stadium on August 30th and his first fight with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and his first bout in Ireland for five years.

The middleweight is just glad to be back in action as he told us tonight.

"It's been a very frustrating six months. There was talk of a rematch with Felix Sturm for April but that fell through. Then there was talk of Peter Quillin for the WBO title," said Macklin of a litany of potential fights which fell through.

His next opponent Heiland is ranked 4th by the WBC and Macklin sees the Argentine as a good fighter.

"He's a southpaw, throws a lot of punches and is quite busy. I'm expecting a high intensity fight and he'll bring a lot of pressure, which suits me anyway. From a fan's point of view, they can expect a great action-packed fight," said Macklin, who believes a win will put him in line for a title shot.

As for a potential fight with Andy Lee in November, he admitted there's "a lot of talk about that."

"I know Eddie Hearn's looking at the O2 for November. But Andy's only one of three or four options," said Macklin.
