Lowry scores career first hole-in-one

Shane Lowry hit his career first hole-in-one today, on day two of the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The Clara man is now three off the lead on seven under following a round of 71.

Lowry’s landmark strike came on the 14th hole.

A two-under par round of 70, sees Rory McIlroy end day two sitting two shots off the lead. McIlroy is happy to still be involved after a scrappy second round.

“I ground out a score, which was the main thing,” he said. “I’m still pretty close to the lead, there’s still 36 holes to go, so I’m still in a good position”

The world number one is among a group of three on eight under par, with defending champion Henrik Stenson leading the way in Dubai on 10 under.

Graeme McDowell is 2 under after going around in 70 today, while Michael Hoey props up the leaderboard on 7 over after a disappointing 78.
