The Dubliner shot a 4-under 68 to lie on 6-under overall, three shots off the lead at Doha Golf Club.
South Africans George Coetzee and Branden Grace share the summit with Bernd Wiesberger of Austria.
McGrane lost his momentum today with a 72. The Meathman falls out to 4-under among 12 players tied for 32nd, including Michael Hoey.
The Antrim native shot a second-round 69 to lie three shots above the projected cut.
