"I deserve more respect" - Jose Aldo slams UFC's decision to make him fight for an interim belt

Conor McGregor will get his shot at redemption this July in Las Vegas as he takes on Nate Diaz in a repeat of their welterweight bout at UFC 197.

The Crumlin fighter receives instant retribution to atone for his defeat, something which former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, has not been afforded.

The Brazilian faces Frankie Edgar on the same card at UFC 200, where the winner will win the interim title despite Conor McGregor fighting on the same night at two-weight classes above 145lbs.

“It's a sh*t situation! Really, that's what I think," Aldo told UFC.com Brazil.

"There is no sense, no logic. I have history, I have a long career, and I think I deserved more respect. Me, the fans and Edgar, too. But we are employees. Nothing I say or do is gonna change anything. We just have to accept and fight, because our life cannot stop. We make a living out of fighting, others depend on it. So we have to accept, train, and win.”

Aldo had been undefeated for a decade before McGregor took just 13 seconds to knock out the former champion and instead of being offered a rematch, McGregor had his sights set on Rafael Dos Anjos and the lightweight title.

With Dos Anjos having to pull-out of the bout with a broken foot, Aldo was offered a rematch but turned it down.

"We were a bit frustrated, because it wasn't the fight [Frankie Edgar interim title fight] we wanted. I was thinking about fighting for the belt and winning a rematch against Conor.

“I know that I deserve it, because of my history and what I've done. But what can you do? I'm an employee. I won't waste time waiting. I have to fight.

“So this is the next step to regain the belt.”

Dana White has insisted that "win, lose or draw" McGregor's next fight will be a featherweight title defence.
