Ireland will send five players to The Walker Cup next month at Royal Lytham and St. Anne's.
The five players will form Ireland's largest ever contingent to the Great Britain and Ireland team which also includes three English players and two Scots.
Paul Dunne, who led The Open after 54 holes at St Andrews is part of the team along with Jack Hume, Gary Hurley, Gavin Moynihan and Cormac Sharvin. Both Hume and Moynihan were part of the Ireland team that recently won the Home Internationals earlier this month at Royal Portrush.
The news is a tremendous boost for the GUI. Their National Coach Neil Manchip told the GUI's website; "With Irish players making up half of the team the strength of Irish Amateur golf is well reflected. The GUI can be very proud to have such a strong representation. I am really looking forward to watching the lads play at Royal Lytham next month."
The GB&I team are looking to win the Walker Cup for the first time since 2011. They lost the 2013 tournament to America 17-9 in New York.
The Walker Cup is played every two years from the best amateur golfers from the United States and Great Britain and Ireland.
