Dana White: CM Punk's next fight shouldn't be in the UFC

CM Punk's UFC debut went the way many would have expected as a man with no previous mixed martial arts experience was beaten in the first round by promising youngster Mickey Gall.

Punk, otherwise known as Phil Brooks, trained for 19 months for the fight after swapping from the WWE for the world of MMA and was submitted in the first round at UFC 203 in Cleveland last night.

Speaking after the fight, UFC president Dana White admitted his next fight shouldn't be with the promotion.

"He probably shouldn't have his next fight in the UFC," he told Fight Network. "Just like I said with Brock [Lesnar], having your first fight in the UFC is tough.

"You see it again tonight even if it's against a guy who's 2-0. This is a tough place to learn."

He went on to explain that his move to the UFC was something that has been tried before and that he respected his decision to compete at such a high level.

"I don't know if the fight was an experiment. became friends with him, he's a nice guy and I've a lot of respect for him. He wanted to give it a shot, I gave him a shot."
