This photo finish shows just how close things were as Bolt beat Gatlin to claim 100m glory

Usain Bolt proved that there is nobody as good as him as he claimed his 100m world record, equaling the record set by Carl Lewis and Maurice Greene for the number of 100m World championship wins.

Bolt pipped Jason Gatlin at the line which seen him clock a time of 9.79, one hundreth of a second faster than Gatlin's 9.80.

The past two years have seen injury bring Bolt back to the field. His participation in Beijing looked in doubt until two 9.87-second runs over 100m at a cold and rainy IAAF Diamond League meeting in London on 25 July.

Gatlin, who has served two separate doping suspensions, had been unbeaten in his previous 28 races, a winning streak which went back two years.

Gatlin took the silver medal in a time of 9.90sec and his fellow American Trayvon Brommell shared bronze with Andre de Grasse of Canada.

Earlier this week, Dr. Ross Tucker talked about the controversy surrounding Gatlin in the lead up to this big showdown between the two, as well as what made this such an intriguing race.
