The last 12 months saw Cullen start every competitive match for the Republic of Ireland and play every competitive minute for Anderlecht this season.

"It's been massive to play regularly and stay injury free," Cullen told OTB Sport.

Cullen made the move to Belgian giants Anderlecht in 2020. The road less travelled by was a risk in which the midfielder was willing to take. "The manager (Vincent Kompany) was a big draw."

"He's one of the best I've worked under. Your role is so clear in and out of possession. I'm delighted I took the opportunity to come here."

The midfielder has become one of the first names on the Republic of Ireland's team sheet since the move. "It has benefited me on the international stage as well. Playing games is key"

It was feared that the promising youngster would of eventually declared for England, similar to Jack Grealish and Declan Rice. He is adamant playing for Ireland is something he's always expressed. "From the moment I started representing Ireland, it was straightforward. I loved every minute of it."

New Contract?

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has sprung a debate amongst pundits as to if he is deserving of a new contract. After a shaky start to his tenure, he is currently six games unbeaten. This has resulted in the fans showing support for the manager to get a new contract.

Cullen has reiterated in press conferences his stance on the current predicament the FAI face. "As players, we are 100 percent behind the manager and we want him to stay. We are enjoying the style of football we're playing and we are getting positive results now!"

"The right thing to do is to give the manager a new contract."
