Fred slams fake news of "unhappy" Manchester United stars

Manchester United midfielder Fred says reports that he's one of a number of unhappy players at the club are untrue.

Reports this week claimed that as many as 17 players were so displeased that they wanted to leave the club.

Those claims have added to the teething problems of interim United manager Ralf Rangnick, with the team - by his own admission - still adapting to his training methods.

Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are both out of contract in the summer, and appear unlikely to agree new deals before then. Anthony Martial has been linked with a loan move to Sevilla in the January window, while Edinson Cavani could also be off to sunny Spain.

The likes of Donny van de Beek, Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly are all believed to be unhappy with their lack of game time.

But Fred is one man who is determined to show that he's happy with life under Rangnick.

"Over the past few days I have read several fake news involving my name and other MUFC athletes," the 28-year old tweeted, "I'm not in the habit of answering controversial stuff publicly, but this time I will have to.

"I just want to say that I am very happy here and I have never expressed any dissatisfaction and the possibility of leaving the club.

"Don't get misled by fake news. We will continue to work with great dedication to pursue our goals."

Following a Premier League defeat at home to Wolves last week, United face Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Ahead of that game, Rangnick was asked if the United players were buying into his methods.

"They are at least trying, I am sure that they are listening," the German replied.

"We showed in the last games against Crystal Palace and Burnley that they are trying to follow the advice that I give them. We conceded less goals than before, it is 0.6 goals per game.

"But yes, still it is about balance, we need to find the best possible balance between offence and defence. We still have something to do to get better on."

Rangnick admits there is a lack of certainty regarding the status of some of his squad, but claims they haven't been sulking.

"We have players with contracts expiring in the summer and maybe one or two players that want to leave," he said.

"It is about the players to deal with that in a professional way.

"Everybody has the chance to show up in training and then get the chance to play. As far as I can tell so far, the players have been dealing with that in a professional way.

"If I realise that this is not the case I will address this with the players directly."
