Chesterfield have sacked their manager John Sheridan after less than a year in charge of the club.
The former Republic of Ireland midfielder departs with the club third-from-bottom in the English National League and five-points from safety.
Under Sheridan, Chesterfield have endured a wretched run of form winning only once since the end of October, with the 3-0 New Year's Day defeat to Solihull Moors proving the final straw for the Spireites hierarchy.
Speaking after that game, Sheridan was adamant he would not be quitting telling reporters, "I am going nowhere, I am going nowhere.
"The only way I am going is if I get sacked and I hope I don’t get sacked because I want to stay."
The 55-year old only took over at the Proact Stadium in January of 2019 having resigned his position at League Two side Carlisle United.
He helped them Chesterfield avoid relegation last term, guiding them from the relegation zone to a 15th place finish.
Assistant boss Gylnn Snodin and goalkeeping coach Mark Crossley are also leaving the club, with former Crystal Palace defender John Pemberton named as caretaker ahead of this weekend's National League meeting with Sutton United.
Sheridan's sacking ends his second spell in charge which came nowhere close to matching his first term.
In 2011, Sheridan led Chesterfield to the League Two title, and the following year they claimed the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley with a 2-0 win over Swindon Town in front of nearly 50,000 fans.
Chesterfield Company Secretary Ashley Carson thanked Sheridan and his staff for their contribution to the club, adding, "The decision was taken after full discussion last night with majority shareholder Dave Allen and also with Mike Goodwin, chairman of the Community Trust, who is heading up the potential takeover of the club.
"Whilst I think we all knew the time was right to make this change, it is important that I work very closely with Mike Goodwin, as ultimately we look forward to a change of ownership very soon.
"There will be a joint plan going forward so that any decisions taken regarding the appointment of a new manager will be made in full agreement with the Community Trust."
Sheridan's managerial career began at Oldham in late 2003, and since then he's had two more spells at Boundary Park, a couple more at Chesterfield, and stints at Plymouth Argyle, Newport County and Fleetwood Town.
