Down's Ulster Championship finished in one game yesterday afternoon, as they lost by one point to Derry away in Celtic Park. The game finished 0-12 to 0-11.
After the game, Down corner forward Mark Poland, spoke to Dave McIntyre. Down finished the game with 14 men after Conall McGovern was sent off at the start of the second half.
Despite the one man disadvantage, Poland felt the side performed well with 14 men, but was unable to comprehend why the side performed better stating, "it always seems to be the case that when a team go down a man, that they up their effort and work rate".
Down now enter the qualifiers and Poland feels the side can play deep into the summer, "there's no doubt if we hit the ground running and play the way we did in the second half. There wont be many teams that will want to play us."
Since speaking with Dave yesterday afternoon in Derry, Down have been drawn away to the losers of Wexford and Westmeath in Round 1B of the Qualifiers. That game is due to take place on June 27th.
