"Winning it is absolutely massive" - Brian Cody

Brian Cody cemented his legacy as one of Ireland' greatest ever managers yesterday as he won his 11th All Ireland title as manager of Kilkenny.

The Cats defeated Galway by 1-22 to 1-18 yesterday afternoon despite trailing by three points at half time.

"The game doesnt end at half time. It ends at the final whistle and that's when the scoreboard matters". Cody told Off the Ball's Dave McIntyre when asked if he was worried by the sides first half performance. He added that Galway did have "the upper hand" throughout most of the first half.

Kilkenny won the second half by seven points and Cody felt the "response was outstanding" from the side in the opening minutes of the half. He called the win a "hard earned victory".

Speaking on Off the Ball yesterday evening after the win, Colin Fennelly spoke of the half time speech given by Jackie Tyrell to the side at half time that motivated them to win. Cody said that Tyrell's speech showed the "real panel spirit".

Despite all the recent retirements, Cody said that he was most worried this year by injuries in the squad with players such as Michael Fennelly, Richie power, Richie Hogan and Eoin Larkin struggling throughout the year.  Cody called the losses "really, really difficult for us".
