'I don't remember being complacent but I do remember the hype was over the top'

This Sunday in the Munster hurling championship, a Waterford team on the up take on a Tipperary side that is hoping to go one better than last September.

That brought to mind the 2002 provincial final between the sides when Waterford won out to end a 39-year wait for Munster glory.

Tonight on Off The Ball, we were joined by Paul Flynn, one of the scorers for Waterford that day, and Tipperary's Tommy Dunne to remember the events of June 30th 2002.

"I think we lived a bit dangerously that day at Pairc Ui Chaoimh and managed to get over the line," Flynn reminisced of a day when they won 2-23 to 3-12.

"In previous seasons, we'd taken bad beatings of that particular Tipperary team in the league. But it was always 5-13 to 2-13 and we always managed to get the same amount of points but concede a few goals. [We felt that] if we tightened up at the back, we felt we had a chance."

Dunne also spoke about the Tipp perspective as a much-hyped side looked to defend a Munster and All-Ireland title won the year before.

"I don't remember being complacent but I do remember that the hype was over the top," he said.
