Kerry star Paul Geaney is hopeful fellow forward Tommy Walsh will return in the early stages of the league.
The Kerins O'Rahilly's clubman called time on his Aussie Rules career last year having moved Down Under in 2010 after winning the All-Ireland with Kerry in 2009.
"He's getting back into training," said Geaney, who won his first Celtic Cross last September, at today's launch of the Allianz National Football Leagues at Croke Park.
"It'll take a small while to get used to the round ball again. He's getting there yeah.
"Hopefully he'll be playing in the early stages of the league."
