"To kick 2-24 any day is good shooting" - Louth boss Colin Kelly assesses victory over Carlow

Louth got their Championship campaign off to a winning start last night with a comfortable 10 point victory over Carlow at O'Moore Park.

Ryan Burns fired 1-07 over the course of the game and they'll now meet Meath in the quarter final in a month's time.

"We're very pleased," said Louth boss Colin Kelly after the game, "To kick 2-24 any day is good shooting. We had the capability of running up those scores in a couple of national league matches and for one reason or another it didn't happen. But today, the lads had the sun on their back, the ability the lads had shone through."

Despite the obvious positives, Kelly also pointed to the need to improve defensively.

"We conceded 3-11, that's the reality of it. We felt they had players that could have inspirational moments. We tried to cull that as quick as we could. The lads who had their individual jobs were excellent. To win a championship match on the back of promotion was just great.

"There's no set trends to what we're trying to do, we attack as a unit and we defend as a unit. The one goal we have is to try work as hard as we can for as long as we can. Regardless of whether it's 70 or 75 minutes, we're going to the end irrespective of the scoreline or the situation.

"Even when Carlow got the scores that could have been disheartening, we responded in the correct fashion."
