It was a monumental period in the history of this state. Politically, the War of Independence was morphing into Civil War and Michael Collins would lose his life at Beal na Blath in '22 as hostilities continued thereafter.
The year was 1923 and it remains the last time that both Kerry and Cork were not invited to a Munster final showpiece.
Instead, Tipperary and Limerick contested the decider, which was actually for the 1922 Munster championship, with Tipp prevailing by 1-7 to 0-1 - which is clearly a result that is as emphatic as they come.
They had seen off Cork in the semi-final in May '23 - narrowly -with a score of 2-3 to 2-2, while Limerick would advance past Kerry in the other semi.
For Tipp, all this was coming almost three years after their former captain Michael Hogan was tragically shot dead by security forces on Bloody Sunday during a challenge match against Dublin, and in an era when they were regular trophy winners.
Munster titles had come in 1918 and 1920, while an All-Ireland was also achieved in the latter year. They might have won the 1921 championship final but it ultimately did not take place as both Tipp and Kerry failed to take part despite being nominated.
Had they won it - added in with the 1935 triumph - it would have left Tipp on a fabled 10 Munster titles.
But the 1922 championship would remain the peak of that late 1910s and early '20s Tipp generation. And here is the team that played in the '22 championship final:
TIPPERARY: Ned O’Shea (Captain), Arthur Carroll, Vincent Vaughan, Mick Tobin, Tom Lanigan, Mick Arrigan, Bill Barrett, Jim Doran, Ned Cummins, Bill Grant, Jim Ryan, Tommy Ryan, Tom Dunne, Mick Nolan, Dick Lanigan.
