Seventh heaven for Kerry in Croker

Kerry put the doubters to rest as they made easy work of Kildare in Croke Park this afternoon winning 7-16 to 0-10. Going into today’s All Ireland Football quarter final some people questioned their quarter final pedigree but a blistering opening 20 minutes in the second half put Kildare to the sword.

In the opening half Kildare had their fair share of chances but poor shooting and Kerry’s clinical nature meant the Kingdom went in at half time 0-10 to 0-3 up with Stephen O’ Brien in particular causing numerous problems for the ‘Lillies’.

The second half however was the polar opposite of the first. Kerry showed the ruthlessness that many say only Dublin possess as in the opening twenty minutes scoring an incredible 6 goals. The ‘Gooch’ marking his first start in two years with two of them. The game was well and truly over and Kildare players could do nothing about it.

The game finished off in a canter with Kildare lacking fight and Kerry adding to their lead with another 1-5,  Jason Ryan’s men eventually succumbing to a 27 point loss. On the down side for Fitzmaurice and Kerry is the concern over James O’ Donoghue who went off injured late in the first half clutching his shoulder. Kerry march on where an All Ireland semi final awaits.
