Podge Collins talks injury return date and Davy Fitz's point on being a dual player

One of the major developments for the Clare hurlers for 2016 has been Donal Og Cusack's addition to manager Davy Fitzgerald's backroom team.

But also of significance is the return of Podge Collins to the hurling panel after spending last year solely with the county's footballers after the dual code matter appeared to become a case of hurling or football.

Collins admitted he was a little "surprised" but "delighted" to get the call to return for the hurlers this year, but elaborated on the dual player issue on Off The Ball tonight.

"What his opinion of the dual thing was that you can't get 100% out of yourself hurling if you're playing football or same way for football, you can't get 100% out of yourself playing football as you would playing hurling. That was his point and he wanted a panel playing that could do 100%," said Collins of what Davy's point had been.

Collins also explained that "a calendar was put together which was sent to both [football and hurling] managers" and signed off on, which sets out his preparation for both panels during the year, while he also talked about the challenge of being a dual player.

The 23-year-old confirmed that his knee is "coming along fine" as he recovers from serious injury, and is hopeful that March could be a potential return date from injury.
