"It's what our players and supporters want" - New York determined to enter Tier Two Championship

New York GAA chairperson Joan Henchy says they remain determined to be part of the Tier Two Football Championship in the future.

Their application to take part in this year's Tailteann Cup fell on deaf ears but they're set to seek inclusion again in 2021.

"Absolutely, we want in," Henchy told John Duggan on Saturday's Off The Ball. "We think it's important for us to be part of it. I think our results in the last few years have shown that we're competitive.

New York had been due to host Galway in the Connacht Senior Football Championship last weekend and Henchy feels their link with the western province has been crucial to growing the game in the city:

"We absolutely love the Connacht Championship and we're blessed with the partnership we have. Cathal Cregg, Damien Coleman and John Prenty have been amazing partners to us but yeah Tier Two is very important to us.

"We're not afraid to travel, once the travel ban is lifted. Our goal here is to have at least 90 per cent of our players here to be home based. Right now we don't have the levels of undocumented players that we would have had in years prior.

"We have a very small percentage so yes we can and want to travel and we want to be a part of Tier Two. I think it's incumbent on us to fight for that because it's what our players want, it's what our supporters want and it's what our sponsors want and the entire diaspora GAA community in America want."
