Peter Keane insists Kerry have "no issue" with Gough selection

Kerry manager Peter Keane says neither he nor the team has an issue with David Gough refereeing the All-Ireland final.

The GAA confirmed Gough as the lead official for Dublin vs Kerry.

Dissent from some quarters in Kerry had preceded that decision due to the fact that the Meath native because he lives and works in Dublin.

Former Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice was among those to question his potential appointment.

However, since then the GAA have confirmed Gough for the final. Kerry's county board chairman Tim Murphy told Radio Kerry's Kerry Today programme that they have no problem with the official's selection.

"Best referee in the country"

Speaking to Off The Ball's Maire Treasa Ni Cheallaigh at Kerry's Centre of Excellence, Keane echoed those comments.

"I as a manager and we as a management and a team have no issue with David Gough," he said.

"I think he's probably the best referee in the country at this moment in time and he's deserving of an opportunity to ref the All-Ireland and to be there on the biggest day.

"You expect and accept that all referees are neutral and they go out to do an honest job and they do."

Earlier this week, ex-inter-county referee Pat McEnaney had shared his view on the matter.

"If we go back even to 2015 and Dublin vs Kerry, David Coldrick refereed it and there was quite a bit of talk about that one as well," he said.

"It was the same scenario as David Gough. He refereed his club football in Meath but lives and works in Dublin. So that precedent has been broken a long time ago."
