Paul McShane released by Hull City

After their relegation from the Premier League last weekend, Hull City and Ireland defender Paul McShane has been released by the club.

The defender, who spent seven years at the club was one of six players released this morning by Steve Bruce. The list also includes goalkeeper Steve Harper and defender Liam Rosenior.

McShane joined the club on loan from Sunderland in 2008, before making the deal permanent a year later. While at Hull, McShane was loaned out on two separate occasions, to Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Speaking about the departures, Hull City manager Steve Bruce told the clubs website: “Regrettably, following relegation, we have made the decision to release the majority of those players whose contracts have expired. We would like to place on record our thanks for the service they have given to the club, particularly our two longest serving players Liam Rosenior and Paul McShane. Both players have been outstanding for us and they leave with our very best wishes for their futures."

There was better news for McShane's team mate Stephen Quinn who has been offered a new contract by the club along with former Irish international Alex Bruce.
