Paul Geaney on his reputation as a big game player and performing with an injury

He is becoming one of the most important members of this Kerry side and despite his relatively young age, Paul Geaney is no stranger to the big occasion.

With two Munster titles, as well as an All-Ireland crown to his name, the 25-year-old has persevered through both hamstring and shoulder injuries to add to his reputation as a big-game player. This is something, he says, all players should aspire to.

"The big occasions have never bothered me, I've never been one to suffer from nerves on a football field" he said.

"It's a bit odd you know, before interviews I'll get a bit nervous but not on a football pitch. Being a big-game player is something that everyone wants to be because those are the days you live for and the days you train for. Looking back on my biggest days, I always have regrets and I used to mention 2014 against Donegal I felt I could have played better in the second half.

"You're always going to be critical and see your faults. There's more to come from me in big games."

With the Championship drawing ever closer, he says his current shoulder issue hopefully won't keep him sidelined much longer.

"I'm looking forward to getting back into it, I'm less than a month out... The injury was just a shoulder injury, it just kept subluxing ['subluxation' is an incomplete or partial dislocation of a joint]. I think it was during the league game against Dublin last year when it happened and I took an extra couple of hits after that.

"After the All-Ireland it was a good chance to get it done so I got the operation in late November. I told it'd be a couple of months out, so I'm just rehabbing at the moment and I won't be too far off it."
