Tomas O Flatharta says his under-fire Laois players have proven their pride in the jersey despite yesterday’s O’Byrne Cup defeat by Dublin.
The O’Moore men opened 2015 with alarming losses to Offaly and Maynooth University, albeit only in pre-season combat.
Laois ran the Dubs close in Portarlington – going down 1-12 to 1-11 to Jim Gavin’s men – and manager O Flatharta say he was happy with the commitment on display.
“They showed what playing for Laois meant for them,” the Kerry native told Midlands 103. “We asked for honesty and work-rate and I think we got plenty of that from them.”
When asked if Laois were going to go with a defensive game plan, O Flatharta said: “We play attacking football and we play defensive football. We scored 1-10 (sic) in condition like that, it shows that we have attacking flair as well.”
Limerick football boss John Brudair admits he’s on the lookout for new players after the Treaty men lost their McGrath Cup quarter-final against UCC 4-16 to 3-9 at Rathkeale yesterday.
He spoke to Limerick’s Live 95FM afterwards:
Tom Cribbin says Westmeath will take a lot of confidence from their 2-11 to 0-11 O’Byrne Cup round-three victory over Longford.
The Lakemen won 2-11 to 0-10 at Ballymahon and Cribbin told Midlands 103 afterwards that his team will be ready for a good cut at the league when they get all their players back.
Laois boss Seamus ‘Cheddar’ Plunkett was quick to play down Zane Keenan’s 1-8 haul over the weekend, insisting the team is his priority.
The O’Moore hurlers walloped UCD 2-22 to 1-8 at Abbeyleix in the Walsh Cup yesterday and ‘Cheddar’ spoke to Midlands 103 afterwards:
Plunkett also paid tribute to the retired Brian Campion.
