Mixed emotions for twin sisters who faced each other in the Ladies Colleges football final today

There was elation and disappointment for one GAA family today as twin sisters from Galway faced each other in the Ladies Colleges Football Final.

Nicola and Louise Ward were on opposing sides in the O'Connor Cup final between UCD and University of Limerick. And in a painful twist of irony, it was Nicola who dealt the fatal blow with the single goal of the game to give UCD the 1-07 to 0-09 win.

Nicola also went on to scoop up the player of the match award as UL were denied their third successive O'Connor Cup title.

UCD's win today brings a 10 year O'Connor Cup famine to and end, and neatly compliments the exploits of the UCD men's team, who captured the Sigerson Cup recently.
