ANALYSIS: Michael Meehan zones in on Michael Lundy's role for Galway

One of the players Off The Ball's Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson wanted to focus in on ahead of this weekend's Connacht football clash between Mayo and Galway was the Tribesmen's Michael Lundy.

The Corofin club-man is likely to be fielded at wing-forward as his county tries to topple Connacht's current king-pins.

Wooly asked Michael Meehan if Galway have a plan to give Lundy fewer defensive tasks to avoid being exposed defensively in that role and here's what the Galwayman had to say:

"It's likely that he's going to be wing-forward again. I remember watching the game live last year and he was great offensively. But in the modern game a wing-forward, there's a whole other role to it. Mayo are primed and they have their line-breakers in the half-back line that are going to hurt you if you're not ahead of them going back. If you're chasing them, you can forget about it.

"It might be something [Lundy]'s been working on. I know Corofin wouldn't have afforded anyone the grace to not track your man or not be defensive-minded  when the opposition have the ball. I think that will be expected of him from a Galway point of view.

"I do see him playing wing-forward. Is it curtailing his attacking influence to the whole system? It probably is. Maybe he might move into the corner and work off Damien Comer because I'd expect a lot of direct ball to go into Damien early. He's shown well so far this year in that type of game.

"Possibly the cat is out of the bag there from a Galway point of view, whereby if he hadn't shown up as well in a couple of these earlier championship matches, it could have been a good tactic to employ early on and catch Mayo a little bit. But they'll certainly have their homework done on that at this stage."
