As the stat Off The Ball's matchday commentator Dave McIntyre shared ahead of today's match shows, Westmeath's record against Meath in the All-Ireland championship leaves a lot to be desired.
Of course, there's a first time for everything and that will be the case for Westmeath who have yet to taste championship success against the far more illustrious neighbours.
Their first ever meeting was no different and we have to go back to 1935 for that.
At that point neither county had won an All-Ireland - Westmeath are still waiting with admirable patience - but even Meath's trophy cabinet was relatively bare at that point.
Indeed, the Royals, who have won 21 provincial titles in football, had collected just one senior Leinster title and that was all the way back in 1895, although they had also tasted national league success in 1933 by besting Cavan by a point.
Meeting each other competitively was also novel territory for both counties until '35 in Kells on June 20th.
There were a couple of notable novelties in that match. First off, it marked the inter-county debut of a future Meath great, Mattie Gilsenan who was 20 at the time and would go on to win two Leinster championship titles and also be the first captain to help sweep them to an All-Ireland final.
The other was that it was also the first week night fixture in the championship, taking place on a Thursday.
As tradition would dictate, Westmeath would lose, that time by 2-7 to 0-9, starting a 22 game cycle over the next 80 years - one which they hope to break today.
