'It's difficult to fund a top class inter-county team'

Earlier this week, comments by Donegal manager Jim McGuinness comparing Dublin's resource advantage to Roman Abramovich's Chelsea made the headlines in a week leading up to a highly-anticipated All Ireland semi-final clash between both teams.

Tonight, the 2012 All Ireland-winning manager joined us on the line and began by speaking about those comments.

"It's a challenge for everybody. We're away ourselves for a couple of days of training camp but that's something we had to organise ourselves. In the four years that I've been involved, I've had to actively go out and seek people outside the country - mostly people with strong Donegal connections who want to help the team," said McGuinness.

"Every trip that we've ever been on really in terms of training camp has been funded externally. We're aware that the county board has a budget themselves to work to and to manage and we've tried to be creative in how we've gone about our business. It's difficult to get money for everything that's required to run a top class inter-county team."

McGuinness also detailed the personnel that have supported his own backroom team and the means by which Donegal have been creative in terms of matching better-funded counties.

He also emphasized the importance of training camps in terms of imparting a playing philosophy to the panel.

In terms of Donegal's development, McGuinness feels things are coming together nicely ahead of the Dublin match and set out the challenge the opposition will pose to his players.
