'It's very hard to talk around some of the nonsense that's thrown out there'

Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney feels physicality must remain part of Gaelic football, but that certain teams get pinpointed more than others.

The three-time All Star was speaking to Off The Ball's Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson and with some of the focus on Armagh when it comes to physicality.

"It's very hard to talk around some of the nonsense that's thrown out there. Say if you take a physical game like last year. If I asked you which was the most physical, people will say different things," said McGeeney, who also gave his take on the fight between Armagh and Cavan last year.

"If you look at the Kerry v Mayo game, where people don't want to talk about it because the referee let it all go. I think that's the way football should be played but we tend to paper over the cracks when some teams are doing it and we'd be a wee bit more PR-oriented when it seems to happen around any team I'm involved in."

The former Kildare manager also said any talk of double-training sessions is "untrue" and gave his take on the debate over players being "indentured slaves".

The 43-year-old is facing into his debut season in charge of his native county and looked back on his time as an assistant to Paul Grimley in 2014.

"Most people who'd know me, know the fact that I'll say what I think regardless of where I am. Paul was the same when he was with me and the two of us had some great barnies. But the fact that we're good friends made it easier."
