LISTEN: Mayo's Colm Boyle aware of pressure but knows that "building" is most important aspect in the league

Mayo won their first league game out of four under Stephen Rochford as his side came back from an early deficit to beat Monaghan in Clones on a scoreline of 1-12 to 2-11.

Captain Colm Boyle spoke to Tommy after the game and discussed the perceived pressure they were under having gone winless in three games, the Mayo defender said, "People have been talking about us that we needed to win, it was a must win. It's never ideal losing the first three games no matter what way you look at it, we were hungry for points coming up here although it probably didn't show in the first twenty minutes."

With a large number of Mayo's side from the younger generation, Boyle is quick to point out that they are building something new under the management of Rochford and that while winning games is essential, building through good performances is also vital, he said, "You lose the first couple of games and people automatically start talking about this and that and what could happen and you need to do this but it's all about building and building and building, trying to get good performances in."

Mayo currently sit joint-second last with only Cork and Down propping them up at the bottom of the table. A huge game, as Boyle eludes to, against Kerry next weekend in Castlebar will be a real litmus test for Rochford's young guns and could be vital to them retaining their Division 1 status and setting themselves up for a late surge up the table.
