Mayo's Aidan O'Shea: play or nay?

As we look ahead to Galway-Mayo this weekend, it is the wounded animals against the just plain wounded, with Aidan O'Shea prime among those looking to return from injury.

Joining Off The Ball to discuss the fixture were Billy Joe Padden, and - from a Galway footballing dynasty - Michael Meehan.

O'Shea has been seen with his right foot in a cast after Mayo's win over Armagh  last weekend, and Billy Joe believes that this a risk that Mayo has to take.

"Of course, he has to play.

"Unless he is carrying an injury or knock of some sort, he has to play because I do not think that they can win any of the games without him, especially if we are talking about physicality, being aggressive and winning the ball around the field.

"There is no way Mayo can do that without Aidan O'Shea."

Michael Meehan gave his Galwegian take on a Mayo star, as Galway look to banish their failure in the Connacht championship against Roscommon.

"I fully expect to see him out there, unless he is practically on one leg!

"He just has to bring the fight for as long as he can sustain.

"I would fully expect him to be setting the tone around the middle, which feels key. Galway struggled in this area a lot against Roscommon."

Billy Joe believes that the risk is important to take for Mayo.

"It is the difficulties you find yourselves in by not winning the Connacht championship, and playing week after week in the qualifiers. The injuries are adding up for Mayo."
