Mayo will have just under three weeks to assess the fitness of midfielder Seamus O’Shea ahead of their All-Ireland quarter-final.
Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes lead Mayo to a historic fifth consecutive Connacht football title on Sunday, but the pair will now have to wait on the fitness of O’Shea after he was replaced during the first half.
“It was in a tackle and whatever way I twisted or turned, I gave it a bit of a pull but hopefully it will be all right” he said after the game.
“I gave my groin a bit of a pull. I am not too sure how bad it is. We will see what the medical team says and hopefully it won't take too long to recover."
The 28-year-old is the eldest of the three O’Shea brothers and faces serious competition for a starting spot from Tom Parsons and his replacement, Barry Moran.
Mayo ran out 26-point winners over Sligo, but O’Shea was quick to dispel any feeling that the manner of the win devalued the achievement itself.
"It is great. Five-in-a-row hasn't been done for 50-odd years in Connacht," he said. "A lot of provincial titles have got a bit of battering in the last while, but it is not easy to win these.”
Aidan O’Shea was the standout performer on Sunday, netting a hat trick for his side and is likely to play a starring role in Mayo’s charge for All-Ireland glory.
