Mayo International Supporters Foundation to close

The Mayo International Supporters Foundation is set to close down.

It follows the Mayo County Board "ceasing all contact" with the group's millionaire chairman Tim O'Leary earlier this week over tweets calling for the removal of manager James Horan last weekend.

Horan told the Mayo News Football podcast that he wasn't affected by O'Leary's comments:

“Not anymore. Maybe it did and look, everyone reacts differently. I’m so busy… we’ve 40 guys in here and a support team and everyone is trying their utmost to develop and grow.

"I think everyone saw the statement that was ratified by the executive and I think that really clarified or closed the situation.

“My job is to ensure the players are in the best place they can be playing football and Liam Moffatt, who is chairman of the board and who I am working with very, very closely on a lot of different initiatives and policies that will hopefully improve the academy and the linkage right through to the senior team.

“There’s a huge amount of brilliant work that Liam is coordinating there and I’m very happy to be helping him on that. That’s Liam’s remit and where he’s looking at. I’m just looking at the football side of things.”

The Foundation has made a series of donations this week - including a €50,000 payment to Mayo Roscommon Hospice. They're also set to distribute other funds as per the wishes of donors and trustees.

It's unclear if a €250,000 payment has been made from the supporters' group to Mayo County Board and when contacted by Off The Ball, the County Board said they won't be commenting on the matter.

O'Leary ended his dispute with administrators in the county last month over the disputed €250,000 but it's not known if a transfer of the funds took place.
