Cunniffe has only featured for his club side, Castlebar Mitchels, so far this year and helped them to an All-Ireland final with Dublin side Ballyboden St. Enda's.
The defender last featured for Mayo in their All-Ireland quarter-final win over Donegal last August, but was withdrawn with a hamstring injury. His club commitments have meant he has not featured for Mayo over the course of the league campaign.
