'Maybe it's only now we're starting to see the benefits'

If Waterford's Allianz League title is a sign that underage success is beginning to truly filter up to the seniors, then tomorrow's meeting against Cork will only serve to confirm that growth, should the Deise win.

Waterford forward Pauric Mahony, who will not be involved against the Rebels on Sunday, touched on the development within the county when he spoke to Off The Ball this week:

"If you look back over the last number of years, Waterford had a great win two years ago in the All-Ireland minor and Dungarvan Colleges won a couple of Harty Cups and All-Ireland Colleges. And obviously a few would have had underage success with De La Salle Colleges.

"We knew when (manager) Derek [McGrath] came in last year, it wasn't just going to happen overnight and this process has been building over the last few years and maybe it's only now we're starting to see the benefits for the hard work that we've been putting in over the last couple of years and it's obviously it makes training that more enjoyable once you're winning the games too."

Mahony also spoke to Ger about his injury and his recovery:

Oisin Langan will at Semple Stadium for live updates from Waterford v Cork, and Brian Hogan will be giving his thoughts on that match on Off The Ball. Throw-in at Thurles is at 4pm.
