The Limerick U21 hurlers have secured their place in the Bord Gais Energy Munster final after a dramatic two-point victory over Tipperary tonight at the Gaelic Grounds.
Limerick raced into an early lead after Cian Lynch scored after just 14 seconds to help them into a 2-08 to 0-2 lead as they appeared to be cruising into a final date against Clare.
But two goals from Colin O’Riordan helped Tipp to close the gap at half-time and set up a pulsating second-half.
During an end-to-end battle, in which both teams finished with just 14 men, Limerick just managed to hold-out by 3-16 to 3-14.
Former Tipp star Eoin Kelly was at the game for Off The Ball tonight and afterwards he gave his assessment..
"You were mentioning how cheeky Cian Lynch was. I think he was very smart. They got the right man on the ball, wasted down the clock and then he actually carried the ball and won it back towards the Tipp goal. Michael Breen fouled him and he got a red card for it. Limerick deserved their two point win here today. They led from start to finish. When the game went level, Tipp had a couple of chances to put scores on the board but they didn't take them and Colin Ryan for Limerick was a big influence in the last 20 minutes," he said.
