"This morning it was like the Dow Jones ... it was like as if Laois' stock had fallen"

Next year, the Dublin footballers will play their first Leinster championship match outside Croke Park for the first time in a decade.

The location will be Kilkenny's Nowlan Park and the opposition will either be Laois or Wicklow.

But that has not gone down well in Laois as the game will not take place in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise.

Laois county board chairman Gerry Kavanagh and ex-Laois footballer Declan O’Loughlin joined us on Off The Ball to talk about the issue.

Kavanagh emphasised that they had no issue with Nowlan Park but posed the question: "what has changed since 2014?"

"Laois played Dublin in Croke Park in 2014 and it was minuted by Leinster council that in the event of a draw in that game, a replay would be played in O'Moore Park. Now, to answer my own question, what has changed since 2014? We had in 2014 a capacity of 18,000. In 2016 we will have a capacity of 25,000. So I'm just putting that question out there as to what has changed."

O'Loughlin spoke about the disappointment in the county over the decision.

"The reaction today in Portlaoise has been quite phenomenal. As you know I have a hotel here in Portlaoise and this morning it was like the Dow Jones. It was like as if Laois' stock had fallen. There was a decision made and it was reneged on."
