Dermot Earley says a penetrative attack is vital for Kildare going into 2015.
Speaking to Newstalk's Oisin Langan after the O'Byrne Cup final defeat to Dublin, the former Lilywhites midfielder highlighted the need to go straight for the jugular rather than taking a "lateral" approach.
"Instead of moving it to the wings, penetration is the key. They played some great football at times but we were too lateral. If we can penetrate the way Dublin did right at the very end, Kildare can go a long way improving for the National League."
His former inter-county team-mate Johnny Doyle saw plenty of positives heading into the league opener against Down for Kildare despite the defeat.
"They needed a good challenge coming into the league. If we won or lost by one or two points, it wouldn't be the end of the world but a good performance would set us up nicely for the Down game next week," he said.
