Former Armagh footballer Aaron Kernan wants to see the All-Ireland club championships played within a calendar year.
This year's final takes place, as always on St Patrick's Day, with the campaign having started in 2014.
Speaking to Oisin Langan on the Monday Rewind, Crossmaglen clubman Kernan wants to see changes made to the calendar.
"I know a lot of people within our club love the St Patrick's Day feel about it. But I think the bigger picture is it has to come into a calendar year," he said.
"Diarmuid Connolly and Ger Brennan, if they're turning around and have to go to Dublin training this week, they're really disappointed after losing the All-Ireland crown in the semi-final. Dublin's probably stuck in a bit of pre-season training and a bit of heavy running. Your mind might say 'I want to go and get back in' but you really need to switch off and clear your head. It's very hard to constantly keep going. I do think it needs to go into the calendar year and St Patrick's Day is probably going to have to be sacrificed for that. But I also think the third Sunday in September is going to have to be sacrificed."
He also spoke about the challenge of balancing his former inter-county career with building a business as a self-employed person, as well as the reasons why he chose to retire.
Kernan also reviewed the All-Ireland Club Football semi-finals and looked at comparisons with the inter-county scene.
