Jimmy Barry Murphy on Cork v Tipp, in-game management and dual players

Jimmy Barry-Murphy believes that Cork's Munster Championship win will give his Rebel side a boost in the All Ireland Hurling semi-final against Tipperary this Sunday.

The Cork manager joined Off The Ball on the line ahead of the all-important match and thinks winning silverware will aid Cork's confidence as they seek a second All Ireland final appearance in a row.

"It was important for the panel, their mindset and their confidence going forward. Limerick had the benefit of winning it last year and we've got that benefit now this year. How significant it is in their future development, only time tell," said Barry-Murphy, who believes it will help the lads to overcome the effect of losing important deciders in 2013.

But he believes that Cork will need to be more potent from the start, rather than chasing down leads, adding that it is something the panel has discussed.

"It's not encouraging to be finding ourselves in that situation too often and it's not healthy for the team's point of view going forwards," he stated.

The 59-year-old also spoke about the challenges of in-game management and admitted that he had made mistakes in the past as that is the nature of the managerial beast.

"It's not an exact science but you hope that the changes you make or the substitutions or panel decisions are right. Obviously there are some wrong. You hope that over a period of time, with the right people around you, that you would get the balance right," he said.

Barry-Murphy also touched on the issue of dual players in the squad and whether the footballers' exit from the Championship will benefit those particular players in terms of training and preparation.
