Jason Doherty's knee ligament injury confirmed

Mayo will be without another key player for Saturday's All-Ireland Senior Football semi-final against Dublin after it was confirmed that Jason Doherty's season is over.

The Burrishoole forward suffered a knee ligament injury in last weekend's win over Donegal in the Super 8s at Castlebar.

"It's very disappointing for Jason to have suffered this injury and he will now begin work on his recovery", Mayo GAA said in a statement this evening.

"Everybody within Mayo GAA wishes him well during his rehabilitation and we look forward to seeing him wearing the green and red in 2020."

Doherty joins goalkeeper David Clarke on the sidelines with manager James Horan having to deal with a succession of injuries throughout their Championship campaign.

Cillian O’Connor, Séamus O’Shea, Tom Parsons and Matthew Ruane and captain Diarmuid O’Connor have also been out at stages this summer.

Meanwhile Paul Taylor's been unanimously ratified as Sligo football manager for a second year.

The Yeats County were relegated to Division 4 of the Allianz Football League this year, losing all seven of their games, and lost to both Galway and Offaly in the Championship.

They also lost all their games in the FBD League.
