Jamie Wall on his hopes for the future

Tomorrow evening at Pairc Ui Rinn a fundraiser match between Cork and Kilkenny senior hurlers will take place in aid of the Friends of Jamie Wall fund.

The former Cork U21 hurler suffered an illness last year which led to an abscess on his spine.

It has left him confined to a wheelchair but the 22-year-old has not given up hope of walking again, and has been working tirelessly on his rehabilitation.

Wall is back at home to continue his rehab and told his story on Off The Ball.

"On the 28th of June I was rushed to hospital with an epidural abscess on my back as the result of an infection. It basically caused a compression on the spine and on the nerves around it which caused a level of damage which has rendered me paralysed from around the midriff down. I spent the best part of nine months in hospital between Beaumount and the NRH in Dun Laoghaire and availed of the treatment provided by both hospitals and now I'm home," he said.

The availability of a car has also given him a renewed sense of independence and also looked to the future.

"At the moment, I'd be looking to get back to Cambridge over the summer once or twice and I'm hoping to continue my rehab at home and in Kinsale with my physio. I'm hoping to find various other treatment plans in the hope that something was going to come along and I'm going to avail of it," he said.
